I was walking with a ghost

This is what we know: Hailey is sixteen and turns everything that happens into a GRAND EPIC. Good things become THRILLING and WONDERFUL and FABULOUS. Contrariwise, bad things become HORRID and HIDEOUS and DREADFUL. These words are usually accompanied by flourishing arm gestures and exaggerated facial expressions. Hailey isn't really great at anything in particular. She is mostly mediocre. She thinks that this is HORRID and HIDEOUS and DREADFUL but truly can't be bothered to do anything about it. Hailey has always had this sinking feeling that someday she would go out into the world and fall flat on her face. This scares her, because there is such a thing as a self-fulfilling prophecy, and because she feels she is falling down, down, down at a terribly fast rate as we speak, and it is inevitable that she will eventually smack herself on the sidewalk and become roadkill.
