Be Unearthed and then Gone

I claim to like poetry, but I never, ever write any anymore. Besides for school, when I have to, I have written hardly any poetry in the last year. And the entire year before that I was writing it practically daily. But during that year I was in insane self-pitying mode, and all I ever wanted to do was wallow in it. Last year a lot of things changed and I completely and totally forgot about all of that. Happier Hailey = Less Poetry. But at least I am happier?

Last night, however, I discovered the joy of the haiku. It seems to fit the newer, happier version of myself much better than the long, rambling trails of sloppy free-verse I was writing before.

In saying that, here is one that I wrote last night:

alphabet, spelling
the words in my heart with your
twenty-six letters

Taa-daa.
